Forest Floor Meares Island

Forest Floor Meares Island

Meares Island, British Columbia, Canada is home to this ancient temperate rain forest off Vancouver Island. We visited here in August 2008. Only accessible by boat, we were deposited on the island by the captain of our charter boat. Our guide on land was the captain's dog Sauz (as in sausage dog by her shape I guess) with a white blaze on her chest. That morning, there were no other people on this beautiful island except us (my husband, our 2 sons,) and the boat captain's dog. ....and of course it was raining..... To protect the forest floor a boardwalk is the only trail to follow.
